Watch a short video about the work process
What is this bas-relief about?
It all started with an excursion, which I went on to find visual images for sketches. Myskhako is considered one of the oldest wineries in Russia. But only after visiting there, I learned that the winery did not stop its activities even during the Great Patriotic War, when fierce battles were taking place on Malaya Zemlya.
In 1943, the cellars of the winery housed the command post of the head of the political department of the 18th Army, then Colonel Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, where he presented awards and party cards.
31 years later, in 1974, a tasting room was built on the territory of the Myskhako winery specifically for the visit of the now General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev. This room still stores on its shelves samples of bottles from which wine was bottled in the USSR.
The deep history left its amazing trace of the past, which I decided to definitely reflect in the panel. This is how our conceptual projects are born. Own meanings, heritage and values are what makes the art object of each customer special.
This entire path, passed by the winery and making it truly special, I encrypted in one simple inscription - “Lenya B. was here.” This is a hook for a thoughtful attentive viewer who, having noticed my message, will begin to ask questions and, just like me, discover the history of this place. With one elegant detail, I invite him to a dialogue.
The path of the winery delighted me with the preservation of its historical values. This resonates in me as an entrepreneur and business owner. I retained my delight and carried it through the entire process of creating several panels for this unique space, but it was the art object “Barrels” that became the heart of the project, reflecting a part of history that is significant not only for the winery, but also for the entire village of Myskhako.
