What is this bas-relief about?
My Galatea. Dedicated to Elena N
One day, the sculptor Pygmalion created Galatea and realized that he was imbued with the strongest feeling in the world for her. The gods, seeing his love for sculpture, had mercy and revived his beloved. The ending is wonderful: Pygmalion married Galatea. However, this does not happen in real life, to my great regret... The name of the project "Galatea" is an allusion to me as a sculpture. artists tend to fall in love with the image they have created. This sympathy often happened to me when I was a very young man.
To be honest, in this project, I was again overtaken by a tangible crush. I sublimated my feelings for the person on the panel. I am Pygmalion, and my object of admiration is Galatea. The whole image in the work is imbued with inspiration from my real object of adoration.
My falling in love with an image can be compared to creating an image in ChatGPT. Today, you don't have to be an artist to create an interlocutor and "fall in love" with him. Artificial intelligence passes a full-fledged Turing test. ChatGPT 4 is already capable of conducting a meaningful dialogue, so a person cannot always determine who he is communicating with: with conscious or artificial intelligence. This actual movement of time is manifested in my feeling of working on this project.
I am often asked questions about my personal life. I always joke back: "Married to my job!". After all, it's true: my women are the images that I create, fall in love with and project on canvases.
